Choose a playful gift without creating pressure
A playful gift should be welcome as a category and easy to decline. Surprise works better around presentation than around consent.
Ask what playful means to the recipient
They may enjoy a shared joke, a requested accessory or a non-intimate gift. Do not infer a preference from your own curiosity. Explain the category and let them choose how much of the item selection remains a surprise.
Keep the occasion flexible
An anniversary or holiday can make a refusal feel harder. Say plainly that no activity is expected. Check whether opening a gift around others is appropriate, and arrange delivery only to a place the recipient is comfortable using.
Verify the ordinary details
If choosing a product, read the exact model’s material, manual and seller terms. Keep a usable gift receipt and explain any return restrictions. Playfulness does not remove care requirements or make a novelty object appropriate for a use it was not designed for.

Before you decide
Would the gift still feel generous if the recipient wanted to exchange it or never use it together?
